Our big yicky looking beetle was a female Prionid Borer about to lay eggs. They're a root borer species, which makes sense given the large number of tree roots in our back yard. I just hope she found a better place to lay than the front steps now. Poor mama.
Beetle mating season anyone?

I just found out through a random link click, that one of my favorite artists is behind the theme song for "Dollhouse". I love the theme song and have found it to be very haunting and now I know why! Jonatha Brooke, formerly of "The Story" wrote it with a collaborator. There's also a full version of the song, with lyrics out there on Viddler.

Eons ago, [ profile] alecto23 and I went to a folk concert down in King of Prussia and saw "The Story" play and I met Jonatha for about 2 minutes in the hallway, pointed her to the bathroom so she could go change. I was in high school then and too nervous to really say anything, but she was very nice and polite for those few minutes. One of her songs "So Much Mine" is a longstanding favorite of mine and perfectly captures that feeling of being a parent having to constantly let go.

I'm way, way, way tired. Going to bed early tonight. Can't keep eyes open.

Sabs didn't call the bus dispatcher to tell them Vic wasn't coming to school this morning. I had to run out there in my nightgown to tell them that he was sick.

Hopefully, his fever will break for tomorrow so he can go to his last day of school and say goodbye to his teacher.

Trying to write a paper with two little monkeys running around screeching constantly, is incredibly difficult.

If I can clear enough brain cells out to actually keep writing this thing, I will include this in the 'challenges to completing graduate study'.

It's still spring technically, by a very faint margin of about 10 days, but the weather isn't really cooperating with that fact. It's warm, muggy, humid and sunless. Spring is supposed to be about gentle rains punctuated with blue skies and puffy white clouds and sunshine.

Instead, it's been total murkworks for a while now and it's getting pretty old. My garden is just drenched from all of the rain we've been getting and /nothing/ in the house stays dry for long. I'm running the air conditioner off and on to cool things down or using it as a de-humidifier in a vague attempts to keep every surface from feeling slightly wet.

I don't know if the Bay Area is having a sunny or foggy spring, but believe me, I'm missing the low humidity and sunshine of the East Bay right now. All of my clothes feel wet even, fresh out of the dresser and the urge to take things downstairs to stuff them in the dryer before putting them on is strong.

I'm trying to find the oomph right now to go down the driveway to go rescue my trash cans. It's just that everything is so wet and dreary that I'm having trouble staying motivated about anything. Weather like this makes me sleepy too, so even though I slept for an amazing almost-11 hours last night, I feel a little groggy and out of it.
It's been quite the morning, between the rain and the IEP meeting out at teach and picking up Julien early. I'm still kind of processing it all and feeling a fair amount of trepidation but also excitement about Victor and school.

It's 9pm and I am going to bed.
It's been a long stretch of days with far too little sleep.
I'm looking forward to just ... letting go and resting a good long rest with comfy covers and no interruptions so I can tackle tomorrow really fresh.

First thing this morning. BA BOOM! CRASH! House shaking. Bright light flashing.

HUGE thunderstorm over the region came literally, RIGHT OVER THE HOUSE.

The house was shaking so hard.

Poor Vic was petrified to run out to the bus but he did do it, skipping down the drive in his little raincoat.

Julien hasn't budged on the other hand because he wouldn't freaking go to sleep last night.

We had a home visitor here for Vic and he just got ... hyper.

He finally crashed sometime around 3 I think.

Needless to say, I'm a little crispy around the edges, especially in the wake of yesterday's tummy problems.

Time to go to work though.

It's all toast and stuff for me today.

Missed in the shuffle, a friend deleting her LJ. I don't know if she just moved elsewhere or decided not to journal anymore. I can't find her on dreamwidth either.

I've de-friended BRPS because there's maybe one item of interest every once in a while and it was filling up my f-list with useless posts that made it that much harder to keep up with my f-list.

I also cleaned up my f-list in general, removed some communities I don't watch anymore and some other deleted LJs.

For anyone wondering, I did import my LJ to dreamwidth, you can find me there as thursdays_child. I haven't made any big decisions about a permanent move though.

Okay. 3.5 made me feel good.
The extra 2.2 miles ... not so much.

My knees feel numb and I'm footsore.

This is why I stopped to get a train pass on the way home so that I don't wind up short for catching the train again.

J's daycare has also offered to take him for early drop-offs without an extra fee. So Sabs may be able to start dropping him off again.

My leg muscles finally stopped twitching 20 minutes after I got home just now.
Julien decided to pitch a fit about going to school, so I put him in his room and in timeout for 10 minutes until he came out willing to get ready to go.

This meant though, that we were late for the train, so we walked to school and then I walked back because I didn't have a ticket.

3.5 miles, a full hour in transit. My muscles were twitching but it actually felt /good/.

I'm not ready to run it, but the nice brisk walk felt nice.

It helps that it's a beautiful day out today.

I did jog across the street in order to make the light, but at the weight I am the jogging really does hurt my knees. So. Brisk walking for now.

I like how it feels to be able to walk and walk fast. It's a powerful feeling.

Back to the civilization of a steady internet connection!

I had a wonderful trip, a wonderful time.

Big thanks to Laura (for hosting and for contributing to the bar-hopping extravaganza) and to Amy (for letting me mooch and generally being great), to Mom and Dad for paying for my ticket and giving me some spendin' cash to make it that much more fun and Gram for being just plain inspirational.
