I'm way, way, way tired. Going to bed early tonight. Can't keep eyes open.

It's 9pm and I am going to bed.
It's been a long stretch of days with far too little sleep.
I'm looking forward to just ... letting go and resting a good long rest with comfy covers and no interruptions so I can tackle tomorrow really fresh.

I just don't know about this whole drop of Julien and go to the library thing. Granted, it's the first day. I knew it probably wouldn't go perfectly.

But I blistered my left foot.
And I caught a chill from getting overheated/the nasty weather and I'm sitting here in the library shivering my ass off.

My lungs have finally recovered enough for me to /really/ start the Couch to 5K program. So out I went at lunchtime today. Sadly, I couldn't even get through the first workout in the program. So I am starting out much, much more slowly and gently than even the gentle program.

For now, here's my regimen for this week at least. We'll see if I can do the Week 1 part of the program next week.

Walk briskly for 5 minutes from house to bottom of hill. Stop. Stretch.
Jog the other street in the 'development' (it's flat)
Start walking on the downslope to home, walk the rest of the way home.

Maybe next week I'll walk all the way over to the park so I can use the trail. Go up the trail one way, come back, walk back home. It's a 15 minute walk all by itself just to get to either of the trails/tracks I can use.

I could theoretically, walk over to the track at the high school in a quarter of an hour, run for half an hour, then walk back and still get it in in my lunch hour.

Hello there!
Yeah. It's been that busy. Really.
Proposal after proposal and then client meeting in D.C.

More under the cut )
2.5 hour visit to the ER.
Blood draws.
Oxygen masks.

But, we're fine. We're all fine.
Medical blather )
Situation normal. Or at least, as normal as it gets around here. ;)

Well. Not quite yet.
Have to get through this next proposal then do a couple of little short ones.
My brain feels like fricassee.

I'm staying in bed, working on the laptop from bed and this weekend there will be more bed and then housecleaning.

I need to recover.

And then I need to start my training program.

But in order to do that, I have to recover.

Because I can't run if I can't take a full breath.

It is entirely possible that my training program is going to start a week late.

Because my lungs on an inhale sound like someone walking up an old flight of stairs and a broken steam ending on exhale.

I caught what J has had for the last 3 days. Dry, hacky cough, fever, mildly stuffed nose.
The fever is messing with my head and giving me strange, surreal dreams that seem real when I wake up.

Vic got a splinter or something in his foot and I'm trying to keep an eye on it 'cos it's infected. It's really nasty looking, but so far, not spreading.

J thankfully, is better barring a lingering bit of coughing.
I took the bull by the horns today and figured out how long 8-9 weeks is from now and found a race to register for.

Conveniently enough, the local Red Cross has a Walk/Run event from Memorial Hall to Fairmount Park on April 18th.

So I registered.

It really is a kick in the pants to have a goal like that set. Now I really have to be ready for that race in April and I registered as a runner, not a walker. This makes me boggle a little, because I've never really thought of myself as a runner and have always been vaguely afraid of running (I could fall! I could hurt my knees!).

But I seriously need the kick in the pants and here it is.

So. Anyone who's able, please sponsor me for the run in April. It's for a good cause and I don't just mean my health. :)

Strep has it in for us this winter.
Julien just tested positive on the rapid in-office test.
Waiting on results from our doctor's office for Sabs and I.

As soon as I can stay upright for more than 15 minutes at a time, I am dousing this house in bleach again.

I swear. I want to rip the damn things out.
I have tonsillitis and can barely speak and swallowing is like walking across shards of glass.
I am so, so, so sick of this.

Anyway. If you're looking for me - I am more likely to be checking stuff on my Blackberry right now, since I keep passing out and sleeping for hours on end and have been dizzy and weak and sitting up has been an issue.

Text messages if you have my phone number or email to beth.kelleher AT gmail DOT com are good ways to reach me. My gmail is synched onto my phone.

So. I turn 35 on Saturday.
And reading through a friend's blog today, I saw her reminder to herself to get a mammogram.
And it struck me.

AGH. I have to start getting those.

So we're all just about recovered from that flu thing.

I have finally unboxed the humidifier and we now have cool mist vaporized water humidifying the bedroom at night and hopefully helping with bloody noses and pulmonary distress.

I am feeling tons better, with the soreness retreating from my eustachian tubes last and the congestion being done.

But Julien spiked a fever overnight and is coughing again and has vile green stuff flowing copiously from his nose.

Germs: hie thee hence and return not, I command thee!

Lesson learned: go to brunch early so that what you're eating hasn't been sitting out on the buffet forever.

Kids: Very much on the mend. Victor's doing a lot better but tiring quickly still. He'll be going strong, then turn up downstairs going "Mommy, I need to lie down." And curl up on my bed and sleep for a bit. Julien, for all he's peeling like a little snake, will be going back to school tomorrow. He's got no residual symptoms and is pretty much just driving Victor nuts when his big brother wants to rest. I think we may as well call the week a wash for school for Vic and just send him back next week all mended up.

Sabs: All better and back to work today. He's working over the weekend to make up the unpaid sick days he had to take.

Me: Stumbled yesterday due to exhaustion likely. For a moment there I thought I was coming down with it because my temp elevated a bit and I spent most of the day taking care of other people or sleeping. Thankfully, I'm okay and doing some catch-up type things today in anticipation of next week being busy.

Slept most of Saturday. A good portion of Sunday. Felt better on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday night: coughing fit, followed by GI distress and vomiting.

Passed out around 3?

Dragging around today coughing off and on and still feeling nauseated. I have a bunch of things that are due, a call to lead at 3 and I feel like Frakenstein's monster without a charge.

9:30am J's school calls. He's crying and inconsolable.

9:35am Sabs calls to say that J is crying and inconsolable.

9:40am Call my mom. Mom picks J up and brings him home.

10:00am Mom gets here with J, who is caked with poop. We clean him up, Mom gets him dressed. Mom takes one look around the place and starts cleaning up.

11:00am Mom has fed J, made me tea and picked up some of the most egregious issues with the kitchen and talked a little about her trip to Hawaii and California.

11:30am Mom mentions she hasn't showered for two days and I encourage her to go home and deal with stuff at home 'cos she has a busy week and just got home from Hawaii at 10:30 last night. J spills his tea all over himself and peels his clothes off and won't put new stuff on other than underwear.

11:45am Mom goes to get me soup.

11:50am J goes to the potty.

11:55am J is running around naked, with one of Vic's pterodactyl toys, screeching at the top of his lungs.

11:57am Put head down on table and whimper.

So. 1 week and 3 days after the initial injury my knee finally no longer feels hot to the touch anywhere around the boo boo.

It's also pretty much back to its normal shape and just has some lingering 'decorations' around the edges in yellow and purple and the big scab on top that is slowly shrinking.

It still twinges a little, especially at the end of the day if I've been standing on it a lot, but icing and Advil resolve that.

Here's hoping for full recovery by the end of next week.

I can do stairs again at least.
This is how I've spent my morning so far:

Mild Blood and Gore of the Bad Knee Scrape variety )

In a nutshell, ran down the stairs to meet Vic's bus because Vic was looking for his Lmax that he'd hidden the night before to put in his backpack for the bus ride.

Turned around because Vic was banging on the glass pane in the storm door because he couldn't open the door and started to run back up the stairs. Lost my footing, tripped on the stairs, went down like a ton of brick, bashed my knee right where the cap meets the leg on the topmost stair and knocked my kneecap out of whack. I also scraped a large quantity of skin off that knee, scraped the other knee, both hands and somehow have a hairline cut in my right palm too. There's something funky with my left ring finger - it's lightly swollen and twinges when I move it but I can bend it so it's not broken - probably a slight disjoint/sprain. I took my wedding ring off just in case.

I kind of flipped out from the pain/panic and was stuttering like a fish without water after I hobbled back into the house and called Sabs. He talked me down a little, came home. We thought I might need the ER because my knee was a very strange shape, but I got in bed, elevated my leg and iced while Sabs was driving home and my kneecap popped back into place all by myself.

That was ... interesting. Ha ha ha.

Anyway, sabs got home, took a look and we decided the ER wasn't necessary but ice packs and bandaging and Advil were so he went to go get some gauze pads and gauze roll at the pharmacy. Came back, cleaned up my knee (ow. alcohol poured on knee. ow.) Put some topical antibiotic ointment on (oh blessed relief) and helped me get comfy with pillows and stuff. I'll be icing off an don through the day and if the pain gets worse or it feels like there's a fracture, I'll go to the Doc or the ER. Scout's honor.

For now though, I'm just doing PRICE which is probably what they'd tell me at the ER anyway and I have an impressive looking bandage on my knee.
